Alcheringa Hostel Ltd is a community-governed, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing quality and excellence in aged and community care and lifestyle options for people as they age in retirement.

CARING OWNER

Alcheringa Hostel currently operates an Aged Care facility within Swan Hill, providing both permanent and respite care accommodation to clientele with a Low Aged Care Assessment.

Alcheringa provides both high and low levels of care and will, within the current parameters, support and care for residents as their level of dependency increases. Alcheringa is an accredited and certified aged care home that operates within the regulatory requirements of the Aged Care Act 1997 and all other governing legislation and professional standards of practice.

With the new Swan Hill Village, Alcheringa are looking forward to providing new facilities to incorporate a community of over 55s, capable of living independently and leading active and involved lives.

Alcheringa Hostel has been a highly regarded and respected organisation within the Swan Hill community for many years.

The Alcheringa Home Society was formed in 1959. The Committee initially undertook fund-raising activities with the object of raising the local contribution to match a Government grant for the provision of accommodation for senior citizens in Swan Hill. The Committee's aims were eventually fulfilled and the first residents were admitted in December 1976. The official opening of Alcheringa at its old Rutherford St site was on Saturday 7th October 1978. In 1984, the Alcheringa Committee conducted a further fund-raising appeal to extend the hostel to its current capacity of 74 apartments.

In May 2008, Alcheringa moved to its new 74-bed Aged Care Facility at Tower Hill. Alcheringa has most recently undertaken an increasing role with Aged Care in the Swan Hill region, taking over the operation of various smaller Aged Care facilities.

With the Retirement Village located adjacent to Alcheringa’s Aged Care Facility, services to the Village are provided by dedicated staff, meaning that loved ones can easily visit family and friends residing within the Aged Care Facility.

Welcome to the Swan Hill Village website. I’m Ann Rough, CEO of the non-profit aged care organisation, Alcheringa Hostel Ltd, who will own and operate Swan Hill Village.

What makes Swan Hill Village special is that it will provide residents with communal sense of well being that allows them to live gracefully. Our commitment is to present a broad range of first class facilities and affordable, private modern independent homes for everyone, regardless of their abilities.

We have appointed the multi-award winning architectural building company, Stonehenge Group to design and oversee the development of the project.

We are confident that Swan Hill Village will offer a fun, active lifestyle within a safe and secure close-knit community. Local response to the village has already been fantastic with over 130* expressions of interest already and we look forward to seeing the Village grow into a real communal hub for people in retirement.
